Our Goats
Nigerians, Nubians and Boer Goat Family
What is a Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goat?
Smaller then a Pigmy goat, the Nigerian Dwarf is a miniature dairy goat. The Nigerian Dwarf Doe is the Jersey of the goat world. She can produce a surprising amount of wonderful milk for her small size --up to two quarts per day! Nigerian Dwarf milk is higher in butterfat (6-10% and higher in protein then most dairy goats). Most owners do not milk their girls and enjoy their Nigerian Dwarfs for the companionship these little darlings bring into their lives.
The ideal size for a Nigerian Dwarf is 17 to 19 inches (up to 21 inches) for Does and 19 to 21 inches (up to 23 inches) for Bucks. They weigh from 40 pounds to 75 pounds at an adult weight.
The breed is of West African origin and does very well in the Alabama heat. The breed is very popular due to their small size and colorful markings. Blue eyes have become very popular. These small goats requre less space then larger dairy goats and their delightful personalities make them easy to handle for small children, the elderly, and the disabled. They are considered rare by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy.
Our Nigerian Dwarf goats may be viewed by appointment. Reservations are taken for Dairy, AGS & NDGA Registered Breeding Stock, Show and Pet stock. Our girls have been tested negative for CAE and Brucellosis.
We are members of the AGS (American Goat Society) and the NDGA (Nigerian Dwarf Goat Association.)
